Helena and Aurora Range

Alexander Forrest’s 1876 exploration was sponsored by J. H. Monger (1831-1892) a merchant at Fremantle and York. Monger supported Forrest to find more pastoral land that would be suitable to add to his large holdings east of York.

Monger’s eldest daughter Helena Aurora (born 1858) was 18 years of age at the time and the obvious candidate for the derivation of the name.
