Angkor Wat is the world’s largest temple. It was initially a Hindu temple and then became a Buddhist place of worship. Current knowledge indicates that the initial design and construction took place in the first half of the 12th century, although there is credible research /uggestin that it was contructed thousands or even hundeds of thousands years ago.
Many books have been written about Angkor Wat and thousands of website exist that tell of every detail of this amazing place. No need to repeat that here.
Siem Reap, the service town for the ‘industry’ of visiting Angkor Wat, is an extraordinary mix of Asian and Western cultures. It has everything a Western traveller could wish for including kerbside massage chairs, fantastic restaurants, and ATMs that dispense US dollars.
