A tafone (plural – tafoni) is a small cave-like feature found in granular rock such as sandstone, granite, and sandy-limestone with a rounded entrance and smooth concave walls, often connected, adjacent, and/or networked with other tafoni.
Tafoni often occur in groups that can riddle a rock formation.
